1983, the year that started it all.  Thorn/EMI Video released Dawn of the Dead on VHS for the very first time.  Presented in Pan and Scan and with a length of 126 minutes this version is the version that George envisioned during the production of the film.  This is what George calls the "final version."  In my opinion this is the best version of the film ever released.

The latest release of Dawn of the Dead we are most familiar with.

Release Date: 1996
Distributor: Anchor Bay Entertainment
Length: 126 min
Format: VHS
Status: ??? (I still this on shelves in like all media stores.  So I'm not sure if either it's a really bad seller or that it's still being produced, but maybe in limited quantities.)

The 20th Anniversary Theatrical Version.  This comes with scenes from the Argento version of the film.  This is presented in 1.66:1 Widescreen.  This version has part of the dock scene with the police officers spliced in with it, although the splicing is really bad.

Release Date: 1999
Distributor: Anchor Bay Entertainment
Length: 128 min
Format: VHS
Status: Out of Print (I'm saying this because of it being a special edition and I don't see it much anymore at media outlets, all though if I do I'm guessing it's left over inventory they're putting out to get rid of).

Dawn of the Dead's second release on DVD.  Released at the same time as the 20th Anniversary Director's Cut this is the only 20th Anniversary edition on DVD.  This is in Widescreen, and is the same version as it's VHS counterpart.  Extras include, scenes from Zombi, and a vintage 1978 Monroeville Mall commercial.

Release Date: 1999
Distributor: Anchor Bay Entertainment
Length: 139 min
Format: DVD
Status: Out of Print??
